Monstergram

Have you ever seen an old monster movie and wondered what the anatomical assembly of these creatures might look like? Has dissecting frogs lead you to crave dissections of bigger and badder creatures? Do you dream about the biosphere of fictional creatures? Well someone has answered yes to at least one of these questions. Frederick Barr has a Flickr set full of the resulting diagrams mixed in with other vintage monster movie poster scans. He has some other nice stuff in his other sets too if you care to browse.

Umbrella Pot

umbrella potImagine coming in from the rain. Your collapsed umbrella is dripping wet with fresh rainwater and you’ve got to do something about it. The Umbrella Pot solves this predicament with a delightful twist. In a typical umbrella stand excess water drips to the bottom where it collects and perhaps evaporates over time. This fresh take on the umbrella stand utilizes that rainwater for the purpose of watering vegetation nestled neatly into the side of the stand. This white Tokoname ceramic, designed by Okamoto Kou will run you at least Â¥52 500 (CAD $515.16) and comes in a range of sizes but we’re guessing anybody with that kind of money for an umbrella stand doesn’t need to carry their own umbrella.

Perfume without the perfume

If you love smelling like perfume but hate to wear perfume then Kabeno would like a word with you. Saresha over at Popgadget has written about some new confectionaries which will allegedly cause the consumer to secrete the scent of roses (or lemon) shortly after consumption. It won’t be long now before they make all excretions smell like roses. Welcome to the future you lucky people.

Japanese Spirit

Tenmyouya Hishashi produces some interesting work blending the aesthetic of traditional Japanese art with contemporary cultural influences. The result is something like Samurai Jack in a B-Boy stance.

Japanese construction worker fashion

TobiFashion goes beyond the world of haute couture. Evidently the realm of construction workers in Japan is as fashion conscious as any high school clique ever was. Just because one is being practical and utilitarian does not exclude the potential for stylistic decisions. Their attention to detail is far from perfunctory. Of particular note are the distinctive selection of trouser shapes and the ninja style split toe Tabi boots. These people make things so style conscious without compromising functionality and pragmatic concerns that it will humble any designer.
