1899296-6-obama-change-t-shirtThe perfect David Bowie song has been created, and it wasn’t even done by David Bowie himself. Dr. (of psychology) Nick Troop at the university of Hertfordshire has employed Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count on Bowie’s body of work to wind up with his song “Team, meet Girls; Girls, meet Team” which, according to him, is the ideal configuration of Bowie’s secret blend of ingredients. We don’t have to take his word for it though. He has actually recorded himself playing guitar and singing this track on video and put it up online for us to examine. It’s now only a mater of time before Bowie is fully replaced by a robot.

Word Worms

A lot of people don’t realize how many wonderful works are in the public domain. All the old Betty Boop and Superman cartoons are in there for instance. This means that you’re free to use them however you like. Word Worms is a project by Alex Gorosh where he takes some of these old public domain cartoons and remixes them with his own soundtrack for what is in his own words; “a healthy alternative to the violent and shallow messages found on most childrens television shows.”

medlc3Mirror’s Edge came out amidst great excitement a while ago. While many people were keen to play this game, and enjoy the new atypical gameplay experience, the most common criticism is that overall it’s simply too short – almost a tease. Most people who played the game ended it hungry for more and with this downloadable expansion pack, that is finally satiated.

For about $10 (CAD) Fans of this game can extend their experience devoid of urban form, replaced by an abstract geometric playground reminiscent of Tron. The core gameplay mechanics are still in effect and players still take control of the same protagonist, Faith. So not too much is changed, except for the abstraction of the environment for an altered surreal art style through seven different settings; Chroma, Flow, Razzmatazz, Velocity, Kinetic, Acinto and Reflex. continue…

Review: Ultimate Band

The popularity of music games has been growing rapidly over the past few years. So too has the clutter. games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero now fill up your home with plastic instrument controllers. If you’re a fan of the genre you already have a closet full of this stuff which can be a pain to deal with. Disney Interactive Studios have just published a new music game with a difference – they eliminate the need for all those plastic instrument controllers and let you play much more simply with your Wii’s standard controllers.

In addition the controller differences, this game by Fall Line Studio has a much softer edge to it than your typical music game, instead targeting more towards the young teen demographic who’s name we wont inflict upon you, poor reader. They’ve attempted to broaden the appeal of the game beyond the hardcore fan of edgier music to include the general taste of families so that if you’re not so in to one particular style of music there is still something here for you and it won’t scare anybody away. continue…

Review: Far Cry 2

Far Cry was an interesting game years ago. It was a first person shooter with a difference. It really shook things up in the genre with its tight AI and amazingly far draw distances in a seemingly open world. It also has a significant problem where the game fell apart in the second half with an unfortunate plot and gameplay twist which was seen to many as being three steps back. Its first official sequel is here now: Far Cry 2 and many are watching it to see if it repeats the accomplishments or the problems of its namesake. On top of that, the Canadian developers at Ubisoft Montreal have tried to push the envelope once more and give players an ambitious experience.

To make a point: Far Cry 2 by Clint Hocking has almost nothing to do with the original. It does not continue or have any significant ties to the original narrative and is intentionally divorced from Far Cry. That gesture seems to be an admission of guilt for letting the first game devolve so rapidly in to a horrible mess. Consider Far Cry 2 an apology to fans as they make amends this time to turn Far Cry 2 in to what we all wanted the first Far Cry to be. continue…
