Frédéric Eyl, Gunnar Green and Richard The have a collection of proposals for some brief communicative experiences based on the exploitive possibilities of trains in the urban context. Much more potent than the freedom train, this work transforms the potentially banal experience of riding a train into an explorative journey rich with mystery and fascination. Unfortunately it is only a mater of time before some marketing firms appropriate the idea.
According to Transit Toronto Bombardier is going to be showing off a next generation streetcar which may or may not find its way on to the streets of Toronto eventually. You can check it out from noon until five in the evening on Monday the twenty-fourth of October. In three years the current fleet of TTC streetcars will need replacement so its time to start looking for the next incarnation.
There are a lot of dark, boring, dingy subway systems. Some more so than others. Things don’t have to be like that though. With some good design, it can be an enjoyable experience to take the subway. Don’t put up with it anymore. Beautify and stimulate. Utopia here we come!
“Deep below the streets of Toronto on Planet Earth, subterranean bliss erupts before your eyes. You step onto a subway car, hear three chimes and suddenly you are riding the rocket. Ads are replaced with art, aliens blow bubbles, astronauts dance and robots sing. On Tuesday, August 16th, we invite you earthlings to join us in a subway party for a night of cosmic proportions. Bring: costumes, instruments, bubbles, decorations, space toys, glowsticks, moon boots or just a friend to the southbound track of Downsview station at 11:22 PM. Our destination: alpha centauri! We blast off with enough time to catch the last rocket back to Earth.” – Lori Kufner and Kevin Bracken
